This is the second year of Stage 2. Year 4 students will build upon the literacy skills they have developed in Year 3. They will increasingly work independently to read and comprehend more challenging texts and novels. Their writing will focus on informative, persuasive and imaginative texts.
Students consolidate strategies in mathematics including mental calculation strategies and formal algorithms. They are challenged through mathematical investigations and problem solving tasks which include measurement, geometry and data.
Year 4 students explore historical and geographical concepts, developing skills in research and attitudes towards the past and the environment. They develop knowledge scientific method with a focus on fair testing and predicting.
A variety of physical education experiences are also provided through Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA) sporting teams, class sport, swimming school and the 3-day overnight excursion, all contributing to improving the students physical and mental wellbeing.
